Installation of components for seven new wind turbines
Through our ongoing relationship with Nordex, we got involved during the installation of seven Nordex wind turbines. Working alongside Nordex themselves, who acted as Principal Contractor, and R G McLeod’s, who carried out the main construction works including building the turbines’ foundations and site roads, we were responsible for the mechanical and electrical installation of the turbine components.
Challenging weather in Scotland
In true Scottish form, during the colder months, the weather whilst on this project was very changeable. Particularly high winds meant that the road leading to the site and the site itself had to be closed for safety reasons at various periods. As a result, the overall project completion was delayed.
Thorough planning and a fantastic AIS Wind Energy team
Our skilled project team was made up of two crane operators, a lift supervisor, and a site manager. Site manager for AIS Wind Energy, Marek, praised the exceptional coordination between the team, saying they were one of the ‘best’. This cooperation extended to AIS Wind Energy’s relationship with Nordex, ensuring that daily coordination meetings, as well as weekly meetings with their project manager, meant project milestones and challenges were communicated in a timely manner.
Through the team’s thorough planning and the continuous monitoring of the weather situation hourly, we were able to complete the installation of the components for the seven wind turbines during safe windows of work, using our Liebherr LG1750 and LTM12000-5.1 cranes. These cranes’ jib booms have been specially designed to reach the high blade heights of wind turbines, which made them ideal for the installation of major components on these new wind turbines.
